Indian Trail History

The Town of Indian Trail NC was founded in 1861 and named for the Native American path which wound through the area.  Initially trading and gold mining were the main staples of the Indian Trail community.  However, by the 1870’s with the introduction of the railroad running through town came an influx of new residents, and business in the area began to expand into agriculture and transportation.

Being in close proximity to larger, central city-hubs such as Charlotte has also hastened the town’s growth tremendously, with many residents working in adjoining cities and towns.  As well, there are a number of distributors and commercial developments throughout the Indian Trail town.  In recent years the town has experienced tremendous growth and as such created a number of initiatives for public safety, transportation, land use, parks, pedestrians, and bicyclists, all of which have helped Indian Trail to grow intelligently.
