Concord History

Located in Cabarrus County, the City of Concord North Carolina was initially settled in the mid-to late 1700’s by those of German and Scotch-Irish heritage.  The city was then named Concord, meaning “harmony” to reflect the spirit of compromise which was reached over a where the County seat would sit.  To this day the city still echoes that harmony with its blend of Concord history, business progress, industrial assets, and residential life.  Through the years cotton and eventually textiles became the main staples of the city, and from those industries, banking was industry was spurred on, and by the early twentieth century the city was expanding and modernizing.

Concord city has an annual Downtown Concord Historic Walk where residents can get in touch with the history of Concord NC through a walk-a-thon with living history reenactments and costumed storytellers, along with great live music, where it is easy connect with other Concord home owners in the community.  As well, many parts of the city have been named Historic Districts in order to preserve the architecture and history associated with them.
